Before selecting a Bar Stool, you need to determine if what you're really looking for is a Counter stool. The main difference between each is simple: the height. Bar stools, as the name implies, are meant to go with a bar or bar table. The seat height of a barstool will vary, but it is usually 28-31", whereas a counter-height stool will usually be between 24"-26". You may want to measure the height of your counter to determine the height that is best for you.

Once you determine the type of stool that you need, the next thing to consider is whether you want a stool with or without a back. Aesthetically speaking, the look can vary. You may not want your stools to be blocking the view of your counter or counter-table, and therefore prefer one without a back.
