The Office Essentials: The Ultimate Office Furniture Checklist
Maybe you know how to make your office space feel like a sanctuary. But what if you need to do it for the whole office? It's a bigger space, for sure. Plus, you have to make it work not only for the other employees but also for the company's clients. Don't worry too much, though. Making sure you know which office essentials to get is the first step. And while that list can be long, you can start with the right office furniture!
Office Chairs and Desks
Can you imagine an office without chairs and desks?
Fact is, you can't have a basic office equipment list without the basics. And that, of course, means chairs and desks. With chairs, you have to think of them as an investment. There are cheap office chairs available. But if you want employees to be more productive, you should invest in ergonomic chairs that are easy to adjust and encourage movement.
As for office desks, the same principle applies. They have to be ergonomic, but they also need to suit the employees' workstyle habits. For example, do employees use their desks for mostly computer work? Or do they need a multi-functional desk for computer work, paperwork, and meetings? If it's the latter, you may want to consider "L-" or "U-" shaped desk setups. Our new Fulton Modular Desk Collection offers individual office pieces that can be combined to create your own modular desk to suit any office space.
File Cabinets
Nothing beats good old file cabinets for organizing your documents. And, yes, even if you store most of your files in the cloud, you still need a storage system for files that need hard copies. This is especially true for medical and legal companies. If you're looking for something that's durable and functional, you can't go wrong with a steel file cabinet.
Or you could upgrade to a wood file cabinet that has a secure locking mechanism. It's an upgrade not just because they're more expensive, but they also look better and help create a warmer office environment.
Lighting
This one may not sit at the top of your list of office equipment. But your office checklist is simply incomplete without it. You're lucky if your office is situated in a location that lets in plenty of natural light. But if that's not the case or if you're moving to a new office, you need to get creative with your lighting options.
That means a good balance of ambient and task lighting. For larger areas such as meeting rooms, you may want to consider space-defining lights. The rule of thumb is, the bigger the room, the larger the bulbs you should use.
